Bind process creates access paths to the DB2 tables. Access path is the optimized path to get the data with the SQL statements. Plan is a DB2 object which is a result of a bind process. Apart from the access path the plan contains the executable code of the SQL statements.

Plan Vs Package: Packages contain executable SQL code for one DBRM. Plan may contain more than one package.

We need to provide the plan name to execute the COBOL-DB2 program. For Online programs the plan name is associated with the Trans-id and is stored in Resource control table (RCT). Plan name is given in the SYSTSIN DD statement.
